When I take my camera into the field, I seek to record experiences. I want the image to put viewers into the moments I’m photographing. Viewers may be sitting in comfortable loungers in air conditioned houses far from the mountains, but I want them to look at these photos and feel the heat, the challange and the joy.
In June 2013, I headed to the mountains of south central Colorado with a group of University of Kansas students who were learning geologic mapping at a site near Red Canyon Park. These images record some of their adventures. I’ve also included two shots of the field camp where they spent their evenings.
