I’ve been thinking about a marvelous song called “There is Only Love.” I particularly enjoy the first verse:
In this moment in this place, I remember who I am
Letting fear and worry fall away from me,
I open my eyes and see
There is only love. There is only love
Love that heals. Love that sets us free.
There is only love.
What if we lived as if it were true that there is only love? We might stumble at time and forget, but stumbles don’t matter. What we do next is what matters. Whether we stumble with our children, our lovers, spouses, mothers or fathers, sister or brothers, the cranky neighbor down the block, or ourselves, and whether we stumble as leaders or nations, the real issue is how can we right ourselves and take action as if — for real — there IS only love. How do we treat ourselves and our children as if only love matters? How do we treat the world?
What would a president say and do? What would you?
Karen Drucker has a nice version of the song here.
