People joke that once you loiter in this town, you will be here forever. Judging by my experience, Lawrence's fly paper effect is as sticky as ever. Even though I left the job that brought me to Kansas long ago, I’m still here. Most of the time I love it, except for those days when the temperature hits 100 degrees, and I yearn for the cool breezes off Lake Michigan.
My son is a student at the University of Kansas. He has a deeply loving heart and dashing wit. I am delighted and rather amazed to report that he still loves to come to dinner once a week. Thank you, Tony Doria!
My mother recently moved into my Queen Anne house. She is an artist and works in oil and Japanese sumi ink. At 81, she has turned to political topics. Among her latest efforts is a massive anti-war canvas entitled “Message to Earth.”
To say that our sojourn has been interesting is an understatement. Some days it's fun. Other days it seems more like a sitcom than real life. On yet other days, I just want to scream. Our time together has taught us about those mother-daughter issues that every mother and daughter would prefer to ignore. It has also taught us enormous respect for each other. Thank you, Joan Silver!
